2007 Soccer Review

U9 Boys

Faribault’s U9 Boys team had a great season in 2007.  The team really came together after losing their first game of 2007.  They rebounded, finished strong, and ended with a record of 9-6-1.  The team had many new faces, all of whom contributed to the teams success.  Leading the way was the scoring combo of Isaac Stadler and Bryan Brazil.  Isaac scored an amazing 22 goals and finished with 25 points.  Bryan, close on his heels, racked up 17 total points throughout the season.  A stifling defense helped keep goals to a premium for our opponents, lead by the trio of Tyler Karow, Parker Wagner, and Ben Jandro.  Leading the way in goal was Adam Johannsen, who led the team to 7 shut-outs over the season, and allowed just 1.2 goals per game.

The team competed in two tournaments, opening the season at a Plymouth tournament, finishing with a 1-1-1 record. They second tournament was the U9/U10 Jamboree, in which the team played some of it’s best soccer of the season in going 3-0.  The three wins were over Twin City teams St. Louis Park, Inver Grove Heights, and Mahtomedi.

The team is poised and ready to continue improving as they move up to the U10 level in 2008.  They were coached by Head Coach Rick Stadler, Assistants Jason Johannsen and Sue Jandro, and kept on task by Manager Tina Stadler.

U10 Boys

We had a pretty good season. We had a rough start but as the season went
on the boys were able to win a few games and really came together as a
team. Everyone showed great sportsmanship and a love for the game. We
played in the Rochester Tournament as well as the U9/U10 Jamboree.

U13 BOYS

The Faribault U13 team completed their most successful season as a
group, playing in the District tournament and finishing as runner-up,
beating Shakopee 3 to 0 and then falling to rival Waseca 5 to
1.  The team was step away from the state tournament - we'll try again
next season!  The team really improved over last year, going from a 4 -
14 - 1 record as U12's to a 9 - 9 - 2 record as 13's.  Of the 9 losses,
3 were to C2 teams in a tournament and another was to a U14 team in
another tournament.  We finished with a league record of 4-3 (after
winning only 1 league game last year), and did fairly well in
tournaments, as shown below:

Mahtomedi Tournament - We went 0-3, but were the only C3 team in a C2
bracket

Hermann's Cup, New Ulm - We won 2nd place, going 1-1-2 against all U14C
teams

Pan-O-Prog, Lakeville - We won 2nd place, going 3-1 with the only loss
to tournament champion Mankato by a score of 3-2

Districts - Runner up, beating Shakopee and losing to Waseca

All in all, it was a very successful season and shows a lot of promise
for next year.  The team improved as the season went along, starting
slow and finishing strong.  Leading the way was the trio of Jake Fritz,
Dat Truong, and Jake Kohl, who tallied 15, 14, and 13 points
respectively.  Of the roster, except for the goalie and a few full-time
defenders, 14 of 17 team members tallied points throughout the season.
Our defense was led by Adam Kern's strong play at the stopper position
and Jarrad Bruessel solidified his value as the leading goalie, allowing
1 or 0 goals in 6 of the last 11 games he played in.

U17 Boys

We had a tough season with only one regular season win.  We won the Walmart
All American Cup tournament.  Our goalie suffered a concussion & broken nose
in our last regular season game so we went into districts with a goalie with
no experience.

U10 Girls

The U10 Girls Team was 6-3 during the regular season.  Each week the team
could see themselves improving which made it a lot of fun.  We enjoyed the
Apple Valley Tournament and the Northfield Tournament.  The whole team is
excited to start again next season at the U11 Girls level.

U12 Girls

The U12 girls finished the regular season with a 8-0-2 record, but did not
fair so well at the Apple Valley and Northfield tournaments.  We bypassed
the district tournament with an automatic berth to the state tournament by
winning the South girls American league division. At the state tournament,
we beat East Select 3-1 and Tonka United 2-0 before losing to bracket
winner North Branch 3-0.  North Branch went on to the state semi-finals.
Our coaches this year were Tim Wayland and Julie Langeslag and manager was
Becky Bokman.

U14 Girls

We started training in January.  Training went very well.  We were able to get a few new girls a head start on learning how to play soccer.  The more experienced girls where able to learn a lot, also.  We learned a lot of basic skills.  While the newer girls where learning basic skills, the more experienced girls were able to learn decision making and smart playing.

For the last two years, we have been recruiting very heavily, so, we have a lot of new players.  We are still building, and we hope to see a lot of success in the future.  Our record with tournaments was 0 – 14.
